#35

Took me ages to finish my latest book. Partly because I couldn't get into it and partly because I was working on ancestry.com. Jeffrey Deaver's "The Lesson of Her Death" is an old novel of his and not one of his Lincoln Rhyme's stories. It isn't really that it wasn't a good book; I just find that I'm feeling less moved by murder mysteries. This murder happened in a small town and it involved a college coed. She was found strangled and raped. The suspects were all over the place. Was it a professor or a local youth? Was it a cult killing? More deaths take place and finally it wraps up.

Uploaded my ancestry research onto the ancestry.com website and decided to add all the old family pictures that I have sitting in 7 albums in a trunk. Why keep them to myself when others can benefit from them. Lots of people are scuffing them up so it's a good thing. I figure I'll keep my subscription active for a couple weeks then cut it off again. Did meet (online) a wife of a distant cousin who lives locally and we've decided we'll do a cemetery walk in my home town and check out her husband's and my ancestors. I do find it interesting to read all the different names and places that my ancestors have come from.

Managed to get 6 days off. Asked for last Friday off as a vacation day and then asked off for Saturday and Sunday (Mother's Day). Was scheduled for work yesterday and scheduled off Tuesday and Wednesday. Decided that Monday was a good day to take a personal day and ended up with the time off. It's been great and much needed. Still have a week and a half of vacation to use up before the beginning of September. We can't decide what to do.

Edge

I love Jeffrey Deaver's books and was anticipating his new novel, "Edge." When I started it I felt like I was a dog circling to find it's perfect sleep spot. Round and round till I could flop down and get comfortable. Once there, it was great but it took a while. This wasn't one of his sequel. In this we meet Corte who works for one of those not talked about agencies in Washington, DC. Kind of a Lone Ranger type who rides into town and rescues the family in distress even before they're aware that they needed rescuing. There's a hit on the radar that an assassin that he's had dealings with before is back and it's up to him to find out who he's after and who has paid him to kill. He tracks down the family and sends them to a safe house and from there he has to figure out who in the family is the target and eliminate the threat. One of my contributing factors to getting through the book was that I've gotten used to reading a book straight through and I'm currently back at my old job and there's no chance to read except at lunch and that's crimped my style. Too many distractions!! I'm just filling in for a while and should be back to my new job in a couple of weeks when the dust has settled at the old one and they train two more replacements for the two new girls that have left or are leaving. What a disaster!

Cancer Free

Got the good news yesterday that my daughter is cancer free!

Finished Jeffrey Deaver's "The Burning Wire." Very good read! This was a Lincoln Rhyme novel so once again the quadriplegic forensic criminologist was hard at work trying to stop the latest bad guy. This criminal was electrocuting people. There was a surprise at the end of the novel which has me anxiously waiting for the next installment.

Even reading isn't fun

I just finished "Roadside Crosses" by Jeffrey Deaver. He's famous for his books about Lincoln Rhyme's and does an excellent job. This is a new sequel about a CBI named Kathryn Dance. We first met her in a Rhyme's novel as a kinesics (body language) specialist. This is the third book about her and it just isn't as good as his regular sequel. I kept reading it because it was okay but it just didn't come up to par with what I'm used to from Deaver. I know my mood is down but I should still enjoy a good book.

Jeffrey Deaver's latest

I'm a big fan of Jeffrey Deaver's novel of his character Lincoln Rhymes. When I discovered that his latest book, "The Bodies Left Behind" was not part of that series, I thought I'd probably not enjoy it as much. Wrong! It was great! Kept me glued to every page. It all started when a youngish couple heads to their vacation home for a relaxing weekend only to become victims of an horrendous crime. The husband tried to dial 911 but didn't get more than "This" spoken before the call disconnected. Being out in the middle of nowhere near a lake next to a state park, the local police decided to send their deputy that was closest to the spot to check it out. Little did she know she'd fall into the worst night of her life. What twists and turns! I couldn't even come close to guessing who was guilty and who wasn't. Looks like I have to wait until 2010 for the next in his Lincoln Rhyme's series.

Power off......

We lost power late last night and it didn't come back on until 1:00 in the morning. I played Abraham Lincoln and read by oil lamp to finish my book. I've read all kinds of murder and mayhem books before, but this one really freaked me out. The fact that someone could rape and murder someone and then put the blame on an innocent person just by planting evidence in his car or property. This same murderer could access computers at a "data mine" and take "your" information and do whatever he wanted to destroy your life. Take your money, your car, your home, and your family. I'm not phobic about the government watching me but when you get someone who's six eggs short of a dozen then you've got a real problem. Who's watching the watcher! This is one everyone should read.
